Level Gimmicks

The chart is heavily based on the A Dance of Fire and Ice chart of No Hints Here! with many of NOISZ STΔRLIVHT‘s core mechanics being modified with the premise of the chart being a “minigame collection”. One of these modified mechanics is that the bullet hell field is transformed into a platforming area with the NOISZ character being replaced with a person that you control with the note buttons. Most of the mini games are from the ADOFAI chart.

There are 20 minigames:

VERSE 1

  • “Warm up!!” - Regular note gameplay with occasional screen shakes (on Hard & Overload).
  • ”Grab!!” - Collect all the coins without falling, getting hit by obstacles or running out of time through a character you control using the note buttons on a platforming stage.
  • ”Score a Goal!!” - Hit at least one soccer ball into the net.
    • “Don’t miss a shot!!” (Overload only) - Score all the soccer balls into the net.
  • “Tricky Triangles!!” - Bullet dodging with triangle-themed bullets.
  • “Hi Five!!” - “High five” the incoming hands with the NOISZ character as if they were slash notes.
  • ”Collect!!” - Walk around to collect all the coins without getting hit by obstacles or running out of time through a character you control using the note buttons on a square area.

VERSE 2

  • ”Remember this!!” - Memorize note patterns which will turn invisible shortly afterwards.
  • ”Reel it in!!” - Reel in a fish by without the fish hitting any obstacles by using the note buttons.
    • On Overload, there are also some extra notes to tap.
  • ”HOW MANY X CAN I BUY WITH $Y?” - Several items with a price label will show up on the screen. Four answers will also come down in the form of notes where you have to tap the correct answer corresponding to the question. There are two questions.
  • ”Don’t hit the mines!!” - Note gameplay with a mine notes that you have to avoid.
  • ”Wavy Notes!!” - Notes come down from the screen on strange increments, starting and stopping.
  • ”Drunk Rhythms!!” - Notes wobble left and right a bit from their lanes
  • ”Defend the Castle!!” - Meteors are heading towards the castle. To destroy them, press the right note button that are labeled with an arrow that correspond with the arrows surrounding the castle when the meteors are on them.
    • On Easy & Normal, the arrows are on top the castle.
    • On Hard & Overload, the arrows are around the castle.

VERSE 3

  • “Fog!!” - Bullet dodging while your NOISZ character is covered in fog, obscuring you and the nearby bullets.
  • “Disappearing Notes!!” - Notes turn invisible when they’re around halfway down.
  • ”HOW MANY X CAN I BUY WITH $Y?” & “DO YOU REMEMBER THE PRICE OF THE X?” - Same thing as the one in Verse 2, but this time, the prices will disappear after a few seconds (except on Easy). One of the question now asks the price of an item shown earlier (except on Easy & Normal).
    • On Overload, the items and prices are referring to the first math section on Verse 2, meaning that you’ll have to memorize them from the previous Verse.
  • ”Don’t get spotted!!” - Control a character using the note buttons around a square area while avoid being spotted.
  • ”Tricky Triangles!! 2!!” - Same thing as “Tricky Triangles!!” 1, but with different bullet patterns.
  • ”Almost there!! Don’t get distracted!!” - Regular note gameplay while things such as bullets and fake notes distract you.

VERSE 4

  • ”Keep going! Final stretch!!” - This verse is separated into three parts:
    • The first part is an autoscroller platforming section where you control a character using the note buttons to avoid falling or getting hit by obstacles.
    • The section then transitions to another section where the “Hi Five!!”, “Fog!!” & ”Wavy Notes!!” gimmicks are mixed together.
      • Easy: Only “Hi Five!!”
      • Normal: “Hi Five!!” & “Fog!!”
      • Hard & Overload: “Hi Five!!”, “Fog!!” & ”Wavy Notes!!”
    • Finally, you reach a section where you have to control a character up and down to avoid obstacles while hitting notes (that can drift, shake, expand and spin) simultaneously and then end off with a cat from WHAT THE CAT!? that you can choose to hit or not (note that it doesn’t affect your score).

Trivia

  • The “Good Kitty” title is only obtainable from this song.
    • To unlock the title, touch every What that appears during the intermission between minigames. Make sure to not hit the What at the very end of the song (doesn’t count for score) while also getting SS+.
  • This is the longest song in the game, at around 6 minutes.
  • This is the only chart that has tappable notes that has strange properties such as spinning and drifting.
  • The Overload chart is one of the few Overload charts to be possible to play with thumbs-only.
  • Playing as certain characters will change your moveset slightly in platforming and free roaming sections.
    • Joker will be in her wheelchair, with her movement being more slippery and her jump being replaced with a rocket booster.
    • The SUNRaiSE Premium Alts (except Yumi) have a slight slide, but can jump higher and hover for a small moment.
      • This is possibly a reference to how Luigi plays in the Super Mario Bros. series.
    • Yumi will be in her wheelchair, with her movement being more slippery and her jump being replaced with a stretch that pushes her up.
      • This may be a reference to the Uproot capture in Super Mario Odyssey.
  • The boss of this song is Charla Tan, also known as Charlie. He is a character from ADOFAI Neo Cosmos.
    • He’s also the person you race in the ADOFAI No Hints Here!
  • When playing on Overload difficulty, two things outside the chart will change:
    • The song played will sound slightly different.
      • This is a reference to ADOFAI’s EX version of No Hints Here! called “The Slumpage Edition”.
        • The ADOFAI version of the song is similar to SL, except “Tricky Triangles!! 2!!”, where a different version is played and the “Don’t get spotted!!” Slumpage version from ADOFAI isn’t included in SL.<ref>NOISZ SL Discord Server, AMA thread in Backstage</ref>
    • The difficulty text that’s displayed on bottom during the song play and the results will say “Slumpage” instead of Overload.
      • Slumpage is a term TaroNuke uses in most of his projects such as MAWARU and ADOFAI as an extra hard difficulty name.
  • During the song, there are many texts that pop up as you go.
    • One of these three lines will be chosen to say at the beginning of the song:
      • “A minigame collection of NOISZ and STARLIVHT”
      • “IF I HAD A NICKEL FOR EVERY TIME I’D CHARTED THIS SONG...”
      • “What The Cat doin?”
    • The name of the minigame (E.g. “Warm up!!”)
    • ”SPEED UP!!” (Plays when the BPM increases between minigames)
    • ”Keep going! Final stretch!!” (Beginning of Verse 4)
      • On Overload, it’s “Whew!! That was a lot, huh?” instead.
    • “Congratulations!” When finishing the song.
      • “Pure Perfect!” If you got SS+ on the song.
  • The font used in the texts other than the minigames is from ADOFAI.
  • There are many pictures that pop up during the song. Most of them are from ADOFAI.
    • The countdown and the “No Hints Here!” title show up at the beginning.
    • A rectangular strip with a fire ball and an ice ball going through it, referencing the gameplay in ADOFAI, appears during the intermission between minigames.
      • What can also appear there too and may turn into Gao when it says “SPEED UP!!”.
    • Props, such as the soccer ball and net, for the minigames.
  • ”Grab!!”, “Reel it in!!” and “Don’t hit the mines!!” are the only minigames that are completely different and weren't from the ADOFAI chart. In ADOFAI, those minigames were “Holds & midspins!!”, “Warp Tiles!!” and “Speedy Tiles!!” respectively.
  • Every minigame has a background that covers most of the bullet field.
    • Every background (except from “Reel it in!!” and “Don’t hit the mines!!”), is from the ADOFAI version of the chart.
  • In the minigames, “Grab!!”, “Collect!!”, “Don’t get spotted!!”, the Final Stretch, the character’s appearance depends on who you use in the song.
    • If you’re using one of the STΔRLIVHT members, they’ll be wearing the STΔRLIVHT Stage outfit.
    • If you’re using Hitori, he’ll be wearing his Blackheart outfit.
  • The sun Noise Beast from Clash of Twilight and a moon (not in Clash of Twilight, but in similar art style) appear in the chart to send lasers and bullets.
    • The sun appears on “Grab!!” (Hard & Overload only) and the beginning part of the final stretch. It shoots lasers.
    • The moon appears on “Grab!!” (Normal & Overload only) and beginning part of the final stretch (Hard & Overload only). It shoots circle bullets.
  • In the minigames “Collect!!” and “Don’t get spotted!!”, the arena the player runs around on is a reference to Neo Cosmos's "Free Roam" sections in the menus and certain charts.
  • On “Collect!!” and the last part of the Final Stretch, the orbs that you control in ADOFAI appear as bullets.
    • They are a light salmon color and some of them have emoji faces, a reference to one of the skins in ADOFAI.
  • Mechanics from Images appear in this chart
    • ”Tricky Triangles!!” 1 & 2 (Hard & Overload only) having the warning icons as bullets
    • The screenshot images appearing in “Almost there!! Don’t get distracted!!” (Hard & Overload only).
  • The goat heads from ADOFAI Stage 12-X appear in “Don't get spotted!!” and the first part of the Final Stretch (Normal & Overload only), shooting lasers.
  • In “Hi Five” or the second part of the Final Stretch, a hand with a blue sleeve appears. This is a reference to Rhythm Doctor, another game made by the ADOFAI developers, 7th Beat Games.
  • In “Remember this!!”, an orange cat creature, named Oskari Kissakinen appears.
    • Oskari is a character that appears in TaroNuke’s projects, such as MAWARU and even in the ADOFAI No Hints Here! chart.
  • After catching the fish in “Reel it in!!”, the character that you chose to play in their STΔRLIVHT Stage outfit (or Blackheart, if you’re using Hitori), will be shown holding the fish. If you fail to catch it, the character will be shown disappointed.
  • On both math minigames, pausing during that section to check the prices will cause the prices to be obscured, even when unpausing. This is used to prevent pausing in order to give more time to solve the problems, like in galaXXy brain.
    • When pausing on Hard difficulty, instead of just being question marks, each of the 3 items prices will be replaced with the words that spell out the phrase “No Hints Here”
      • On Overload, it is similar to Hard, but it spells out “Nope, No Hints Here” as there’s 4 items this time.
      • The Japanese version replaces the question marks/phrase with the character 草 (kusa), meaning grass, or in Japanese internet slang, laughter (similar to LMAO).
  • Although on Overload the prices in this second math section are never brought up, they will if you play the song in practice mode and start at Verse 3, since you don’t get to see the prices on the first math section.
  • Originally, TaroNuke had an idea to make the arrow arrangements on “Defend the Castle” minigame on Overload different from Hard.<ref>https://discord.com/channels/626529477865766933/846438516115636254/1069486157341134848</ref>
    • Left arrow - North of castle
    • Down arrow - West of castle
    • Right arrow - South of Castle
    • Up arrow - East of Castle
  • If you get hit too many times during "Defend the Castle", the princess won't show a heart icon at the end of the minigame.
    • Specifically, if you get hit twice or more in the span of roughly six seconds, the heart won't appear.
  • The fishing minigame was added per a suggestion by k//eternal.<ref>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8QYb7xgKAk</ref>
  • The rat on the throne in the background of “Tricky Triangles!! 2!!” is from ADOFAI Stage 11-X.
  • What is a featured bullet in this chart. It is at the last part of the Final Stretch.
  • If you hit the What at the very end, its eyes will be X’s as it’s being launched.
  • The song's name is a reference to UKSRT. In each tournament's "Stage 3," the song's hint is "Nope, no hints here," and No Hints Here! is A Dance of Fire and Ice: Neo Cosmos' third stage.<ref>https://youtu.be/I8QYb7xgKAk?t=1979</ref>
