NOISZ has a variety of different bullet types and hazards present during stages.
Bullets
Colors
Blue bullets can be absorbed by the blue shield (activated with the Shield button).
Red bullets cannot be absorbed by the blue shield. Crash Mode shield (present on Crash Style and its variants), Proto Style's Proto Crash, and Harmonic Style's red shield can absorb red bullets.
Violet bullets (exclusive to the song Violet) split into red and blue bullets after a set amount of time. Before they split, violet bullets can be absorbed with shield types that absorb red bullets. Violet bullets do not have a laser counterpart.
Void bullets cannot be absorbed by any shield except that of Zeta Crash in re:||VERSE. On contact, they will instantly bring you to the Game Over screen, even on songs without Lethal rate. Void bullet damage can be negated by using a Crash Mode shield or Proto Style's Proto Crash, but this does not absorb the bullet.
Blue Void bullets (sometimes called "bloid" by the community) can be absorbed by the blue shield and Zeta Crash's Crash Mode shield. Notably, using the standard Crash Mode shield does not absorb blue Void bullets, a phenomenon only possible to observe on NOISZ ARC⌖CODA's VANDALIZED AI. Blue Void bullets do not have a laser counterpart.
Types
Bullets can be absorbed with their matching shield type. (Notably, the upcoming re:||VENGE difficulty's uncrashable bullets are exempt from this). They usually appear as either as circles or kunais.
Lasers cannot be absorbed with their matching shield type, but shielding a laser will block it.
Enemies are usually entities with special movement behavior that can spawn bullets. Notably, they cannot be absorbed, and Crash Mode's shield will not protect you from receiving contact damage from them. Stage bosses themselves also deal this same unblockable contact damage, referred to often as "sprite damage." These include Robot Rhinos' mini-rhinos and bullet-spawning horns, Destroy's mini-UFOs, Blood's bats, and unexpectedly, Blood's floor rising kunais.
Proto Style's Proto Crash specifically can protect against contact damage from enemies.
Quiz lasers, a gimmick exclusive to π•ρ•maniac and D.S. al fine, are pairs of red lasers in which the incorrect answer one will deal damage, and the correct answer one will not. Their primary distinguishing characteristic from regular red lasers is that, in π•ρ•maniac, Harmonic Style's red shield will cause a correct answer quiz laser to become active and deal damage.
Hazards
Other hazards and stage mechanics exist in songs which are capable of dealing damage.
Deadline Zones
Deadline Zones are a mechanic introduced in Kill The Deadline that reappear in D.S. al fine. A circular zone appears with a countdown present in it. This countdown decreases once each beat (on Overload, it decreased twice if you shield that beat). If you are not inside of the circle when the timer reaches zero, you take damage. If you are within the Deadline Zone when the timer reaches zero, the boss takes damage.
The damage dealt to the boss when a Deadline Zone activates is affected by lives damage penalty (before Overflow) and the 0 lives damage penalty.
Shields
Shields are a mechanic introduced in Not The Last that reappear in D.S. al fine. Shields appear in set locations with a timer above them. When the timer reaches 0, the shield disappears. On Overload, shields decrease in size as the countdown lowers. Making contact with a shield will cause you to take sprite damage.
Octagons
Octagons are a mechanic introduced in re:||BIRTH and re:||VERSE that reappear in D.S. al fine and ⠀. The player character is locked in place with chains and must move in the correct direction to take gaps in the octagons.
Slash Notes
Slash notes were originally present in NOISZ STΔRLIVHT, but they have since debuted in NOISZ with the release of NOISZ episode G. You must move in the direction of a slash note's arrow when the countdown reaches 0. In NOISZ episode G, you need to use Proto Style's Proto Dash or Proto Crash in order to activate slash notes.
Failing a slash note will cause you to take damage. Hitting a slash note will deal +2.5% Overflow to the boss. Slash note damage is not affected by lives damage penalty (before Overflow) nor the 0 lives damage penalty.
