Shortly before middle school, Hakuno is accidentally sent both the boys' and girls' uniforms. Tired of being dressed like a boy, Hakuno wears the dress to the school, but is quickly ridiculed by teachers and students alike, the latter of which spreading rumours about her, labelling her "trespasser". Eventually, Hakuno is cornered by two of the school's most popular students, [[Rise]] and [[Ai]], who cut Hakuno deep with spiteful words about her and her family.

Before they can escalate, they are confronted and slammed into a locker by another student - their friend [[Sumire Hitori|Sumire]] - and Hakuno runs out of the school distraught in the meantime. Sumire follows her and comforts her, walking her home and exchanging numbers; the two of them become friends, and Hakuno returns home to her energetic sister Shion teasing her about talking to girls.
 
Eventually, Sumire and Hakuno decide to form an LGBTQ+ club at school, which attracts two members: [[Rhyme]] and [[Han]]. From then on, they meet at Tuesdays and Thursdays in an abandoned classroom for the next few months as the Flaming Pride Friendship Squad, and eventually have a picnic at an abandoned theatre.
 
However, these days do not last as the club receives a note threatening to out Han, Rhyme and Hakuno as trans to their parents unless the club breaks up, and so the club is forced to break up. Shortly afterwards, Hakuno returns home and comes out to her parents, who kick her out of the house, and she stays at Sumire's house for the night. Afterwards, Hakuno moves to the big city to live with her aunt, [[Heather Valentine]], though the two of them remain in contact over text, as well as with Rhyme and Han. When the two reunite years later, Hakuno has fully transitioned, much to Sumire's joy.

    Hakuno Nekoda is a member of the idol group STΔRLIVHT. Despite her carefree attitude to most things, she is more than capable of holding her own in most departments, and has finally reached a comfortable stage in her identity as a sapphic trans girl.

    She has been part of an idol group with Sera, Grace and Sumire since high school, first starting as a school idol club[2], and then becoming a formal idol group after being scouted by Antiphon at a HI-LIVE performance[3].

    She has a complex relationship with her sister, Shion Nekoda, stemming from Hakuno's past with the rest of her family.

    History

    Hakuno grew up as a closeted trans girl in a conservative household obsessed with their family's name; her parents often enforced a traditionally boyish image onto her, cutting her hair whenever it reached her shoulders and buying her masculine clothes. The only person in her family that she was close with was her little sister Shion, who she was good friends with up until she was kicked out of her house.

    Despite being on good terms with Shion while she was living in her parents' house, Hakuno felt jealous of Shion, who had everything as a girl that she had wished for, while also feeling guilty that Shion idolized her as a sibling, struggling to move past her bitterness.[4]
